1 論居埃及之猶大人、卽處密奪、答比匿、挪弗與巴忒羅地者、耶和華諭耶利米曰、 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,
2 萬軍之耶和華、以色列之上帝云、我所降於耶路撒冷、及猶大諸邑之災、爾目覩之、今爲荒蕪、無人居處、 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein,
3 乃因其人行惡、以激我怒、焚香以事他神、卽彼與爾、及爾列祖所未識者、 Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.
4 我遣我僕諸先知詣爾、夙興而遣之曰、噫、此可憎之事、我所疾者、爾勿行之、 Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.
5 惟彼不從、不側耳以聽、不改其惡仍焚香於他神、 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.
6 故我傾怒洩忿於猶大諸邑、及耶路撒冷街衢、如火之焚、使之荒寂、有如今日、 Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.
7 萬軍之上帝耶和華、以色列之上帝曰、爾曹奚爲行此大惡、自害厥命、俾男女孩提乳子、悉絕於猶大、靡有孑遺、 Therefore now thus saith the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;
8 緣以爾手所爲、激我震怒、在所往居之埃及地、焚香於他神、致爾見絕、在天下萬國中、成爲可詛可辱、 In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
9 爾祖之惡、及猶大王與后之惡、爾與爾妻之惡、卽在猶大地、與耶路撒冷街衢所行者、爾忘之乎、 Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 彼衆至今、猶不自卑、不畏我所示爾及爾祖之律例典章、而遵行之、 They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.
11 故萬軍之耶和華、以色列之上帝曰、我必注目於爾、而加以禍、翦滅猶大衆、 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.
12 猶大遺民、定厥趨向、往居埃及地者、我必取而殲之、彼必仆於埃及地、亡於鋒刃饑饉、自尊逮卑、悉滅於鋒刃饑饉、成爲可憎可駭、可詛可辱、 And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.
13 我必罰居埃及地者、如以鋒刃饑饉疫癘、罰耶路撒冷然、 For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:
14 使猶大遺民、往居埃及、欲返猶大地而居者除逃脫之數人外、無一得逸而歸、○ So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.
15 凡知其妻焚香於他神者、與旁立諸婦、卽居埃及巴忒羅之衆、聚爲大會、答耶利米曰、 Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,
16 爾託耶和華名諭我之言、我不聽從、 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken unto thee.
17 我必成我口所言、焚香灌奠於天后、循我及我祖、我王、我牧伯、在猶大諸邑、及耶路撒冷街衢所爲、蓋其時我儕足食晏安、不遘災禍、 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
18 自我不焚香灌奠於天后、則無不缺乏、亡於鋒刃饑饉、 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
19 我焚香灌奠於天后、作餅以象其形、加以灌奠、我夫豈不與乎、 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?
20 耶利米謂答之之男女庶民曰、 Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,
21 爾與爾祖、諸王牧伯、及斯土庶民、焚香於猶大諸邑、與耶路撒冷街衢、耶和華豈不記憶之、思念之、 The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the Lord remember them, and came it not into his mind?
22 因爾所行之惡、所作可憎之事、耶和華不能復忍、故爾土地成爲荒蕪、可駭可詛、無人居處、有如今日、 So that the Lord could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
23 爾曹焚香、獲罪於耶和華、不從耶和華之言、不遵其律例、典章法度、故遘此災、有如今日、○ Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.
24 耶利米又謂庶民、及諸婦曰、居埃及地之猶大人、其聽耶和華言、 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
25 萬軍之耶和華、以色列之上帝云、爾與爾妻、口所言者以手成之、曰、我必如我所許之願、焚香灌奠於天后、今可堅爾願而償之、 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.
26 居埃及地之猶大人、其聽耶和華言、耶和華曰、我已指我大名而誓、凡居埃及之猶大人、後必無一人、口道我名曰、我指維生之主耶和華而誓、 Therefore hear ye the word of the Lord, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the Lord, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord God liveth.
27 我必儆醒而降以禍、不降以福、凡在埃及之猶大人、必亡於鋒刃饑饉、至於盡滅、 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.
28 脫於鋒刃、自埃及返猶大者、爲數無幾、猶大遺民、入埃及而居者、必知伊誰之言得應、我之言歟、抑彼之言歟、 Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.
29 耶和華曰、我必罰爾於斯土、有兆可徵、使爾知我所言降禍於爾、其言必應、 And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:
30 我必以埃及王法老合弗拉、付於厥敵、及索其命者之手、如我以猶大王西底家、付於厥敵、及索其命者巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒之手、耶和華言之矣、 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will give Pharaoh–hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.
