| 1 | 耶和華曰、往購陶人之缾、導祭司及民之長老數人、 | Thus saith the Lord, Go and get a potter’s earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests; |
| 2 | 出往欣嫩子谷、近哈珥西門、在彼宣我示爾之言、 | And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee, |
| 3 | 曰、猶大王及耶路撒冷居民歟、宜聽耶和華言、萬軍之耶和華、以色列之上帝云、我將降災於斯土、凡聞之者、其耳必震、 | And say, Hear ye the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle. |
| 4 | 緣彼與其列祖、及猶大列王棄我、視斯土爲異域、焚香於其未識之神、且流無辜之血、徧於斯土、 | Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents; |
| 5 | 爲巴力建崇邱、火焚其子爲燔祭、獻於巴力、此事非我所命所言、亦非我心所思、 | They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind: |
| 6 | 故耶和華曰、時日將至、此地不復稱陀斐特、亦不稱欣嫩子谷、惟稱殺戮谷、 | Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter. |
| 7 | 我必於斯土、敗猶大及耶路撒冷人之謀、使在敵前仆於鋒刃、及索其命者之手、付其屍於空中之鳥、地上之獸、以爲食物、 | And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth. |
| 8 | 亦使此邑成爲怪異、被人嗤笑、凡過之者、因其所遭之禍、必駭異而嗤笑、 | And I will make this city desolate, and an hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof. |
| 9 | 我必使之食其子女之肉、受窘之際、卽被敵與索其命者圍困、危迫之時、食其友朋之肉、 | And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them. |
| 10 | 言竟、爾則毀其缾、使同行者目擊、 | Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee, |
| 11 | 告之曰、萬軍之耶和華云、我必如是毀斯民斯邑、若人毀陶人之器、不能復完、人必葬屍於陀斐特、致無隙地、 | And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury. |
| 12 | 耶和華曰、我必若是待斯土、與其居民、使此邑如陀斐特、 | Thus will I do unto this place, saith the Lord, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as Tophet: |
| 13 | 耶路撒冷第宅、猶大列王宮室、凡在其上焚香於天象、灌酒於他神、而玷汚者、必如陀斐特焉、○ | And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods. |
| 14 | 耶利米奉耶和華命、往陀斐特預言而返、則立耶和華室院中、告衆曰、 | Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the Lord’s house; and said to all the people, |
| 15 | 萬軍之耶和華、以色列之上帝云、我必降所言之災於是邑、及其屬邑、蓋彼強項、不聽我言也、 | Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words. |
