1 耶和華僕摩西死後、耶和華諭摩西從者、嫩之子約書亞曰、 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,
2 我僕摩西死矣、今爾與民起而濟此約但、往我所賜以色列族之地、 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
3 凡爾足所履之處、我悉以錫爾、如我昔與摩西所言、 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
4 自曠野曁利巴嫩、至伯拉大河、赫族全地、爰及大海日入之所、咸爲爾境、 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
5 爾之畢生、無人能禦爾、我必偕爾、如昔偕摩西然、必不遺爾、不棄爾也、 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6 強乃心、壯乃志、以爾必導斯民、得我誓賜其祖之地、 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
7 惟當強乃心、壯乃志、悉守我僕摩西命爾之律、而遵行之、勿偏於左、勿偏於右、俾爾無論何往、靡不亨通、 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
8 惟此律書、勿離爾口、晝夜思維、守其所錄、致獲坦途、而得利達、 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 我豈不命爾乎、強乃心、壯乃志、勿畏葸、勿恐惶、無論何往、爾上帝耶和華與爾偕焉、○ Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
10 於是約書亞命民間有司曰、 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
11 巡營諭民、宜備餱糧、三日之內、必濟約但、入據爾上帝耶和華賜爾爲業之地、 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.
12 時、約書亞語流便人、迦得人、及瑪拿西支派之半曰、 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,
13 爾當追念耶和華僕摩西諭爾之言云、爾上帝耶和華旣已錫爾綏安、亦必錫爾斯土、 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
14 爾之妻孥牲畜、可留於約但東、摩西予爾之地、惟爾勇士、必皆執兵、先爾兄弟而濟以助之、 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
15 迨耶和華錫爾兄弟綏安、如錫於爾、使之亦得爾上帝耶和華所賜之地、後乃返得爾業、卽耶和華僕摩西所予約但東日出之地、 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.
16 對曰、凡爾所諭、我必行之、凡爾所遣、我必往焉、 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.
17 昔我諸事聽從摩西、今亦如是聽從爾、惟願爾上帝耶和華偕爾、如偕摩西然、 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.
18 凡逆爾命、不遵爾所諭者、必致之死、惟當強乃心、壯乃志、 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.
