| 1 | 越至三日、以斯帖衣朝服、立於王宮內院、在王宮相對之所、王在宮中坐其位、對於門、 | Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house. |
| 2 | 見后以斯帖立於院中、則加恩、向之舉金杖、以斯帖乃前、捫其杖端、 | And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. |
| 3 | 王諭之曰、后以斯帖、爾何所欲、爾何所求、卽國之半、亦必予爾、 | Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom. |
| 4 | 以斯帖曰、我爲王設宴、如王悅之、請與哈曼、今日赴宴、 | And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him. |
| 5 | 王命曰、使哈曼速行、如以斯帖所言、於是王及哈曼、赴以斯帖所備之宴、 | Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared. |
| 6 | 宴飲之時、王謂以斯帖曰、爾何所求、我必予爾、爾何所欲、卽國之半、亦必爲之、 | And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed. |
| 7 | 以斯帖曰、我之所求所欲、 | Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is; |
| 8 | 我若沾恩於王前、且王悅之、允我所求、成我所欲、請與哈曼、赴我所設之宴、明日必依王言而行、 | If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said. |
| 9 | 是日哈曼中心歡悅、欣然而出、然見末底改在御門、不起立、不動身、則怒甚、 | Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai. |
| 10 | 強忍而歸、招其友及妻細利斯至、 | Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife. |
| 11 | 以其財貨之富、子女之繁、及王擢而升之、超於諸伯王臣諸事、悉告之、 | And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king. |
| 12 | 且曰、后以斯帖設宴、予而外、不許人偕王赴之、明日設宴、我與王又見請、 | Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king. |
| 13 | 惟見猶大人末底改坐於御門、則此一切、不足爲意、 | Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate. |
| 14 | 其妻細利斯與諸友謂之曰、當具木高五丈、明日求王、懸末底改於上、然後欣然與王赴宴、哈曼悅其言、使具木焉、 | Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made. |
