1 約書亞卒後、以色列人諮諏耶和華曰、孰可先往、爲我攻迦南人、與之戰、 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
2 耶和華曰、猶大人可往、我以斯土付於其手、 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 猶大人謂其兄弟西緬人曰、爾與我同往、至我所得之地、與迦南人戰、厥後我亦與爾同往、至爾所得之地、西緬人遂偕行、 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4 猶大人乃往、耶和華以迦南人比利洗人付於其手、在比色殺其人一萬、 And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 於彼遇亞多尼比色、與之戰、擊敗迦南人、比利洗人、 And they found Adoni–bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 亞多尼比色遁、追而擒之、斷其手之巨擘、足之將指、 But Adoni–bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 亞多尼比色曰、昔有七十王、斷其手之巨擘、足之將指、拾食於我几下、今上帝依我所行以報、乃攜至耶路撒冷、而死於彼、○ And Adoni–bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
8 猶大人攻耶路撒冷取之、擊之以刃、燬之以火、 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 厥後、往攻居山地南土窪地之迦南人、 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
10 又攻居希伯崙之迦南人、擊示篩、亞希幔、撻買、希伯崙昔名基列亞巴、 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath–arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 由此往攻底璧居民、底璧昔名基列西弗、 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath–sepher:
12 迦勒曰、擊基列西弗而取之者、我必以女押撒妻之、 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath–sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
13 迦勒弟基納斯子俄陀聶取之、迦勒遂妻以女押撒、 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
14 于歸時、勸夫求田於父、女旣下驢、迦勒曰、爾何欲、 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
15 曰、求錫嘏於我、父旣嫁我於南土、今請賜我以泉、迦勒遂以上下泉予之、○ And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
16 摩西外戚、基尼人也、其裔偕猶大人離椶樹城、至亞拉得南之猶大野、與民同居、 And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
17 猶大人與其兄弟西緬人偕往、擊居洗法之迦南人、毀滅其邑、遂名曰何珥瑪、 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
18 猶大人又取迦薩、亞實基倫、以革倫、曁其四境、 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
19 耶和華與猶大人偕、遂據有山地、惟不能逐居谷中者、以其有鐵車故也、 And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 遵摩西命、以希伯崙予迦勒、遂逐亞衲三子、 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
21 居耶路撒冷之耶布斯人、便雅憫人未逐之、仍在耶路撒冷、與便雅憫人偕居、至於今日、○ And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
22 約瑟家往攻伯特利、耶和華偕之、 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth–el: and the Lord was with them.
23 伯特利昔名路斯、約瑟家遣人窺之、 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Beth–el. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
24 偵者見一人自邑出、謂之曰、入邑之路、請爾示我、我必善待爾、 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
25 其人示以入邑之路、遂刃擊其邑、惟釋其人、及其全家、 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
26 其人乃往赫人之地建邑、名曰路斯、迄今其名尚存、○ And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
27 伯善、他納、多珥、以伯蓮、米吉多、及其鄉里之民、瑪拿西人未逐之、迦南人執意居其地、 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 迨以色列族強盛、使迦南人服役、不盡逐之、○ And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 居基色之迦南人、以法蓮人未逐之、仍居基色、在以法蓮人中、○ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
30 基倫拿哈拉之居民、西布倫人未逐之、仍居西布倫人中、而服其役、○ Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
31 亞柯、西頓、亞黑拉、亞革悉、黑巴、亞弗革、利合之居民、亞設人未逐之、 Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
32 居於土著迦南人中、蓋不逐之、○ But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
33 伯示麥伯亞納之居民、拿弗他利人未逐之、居於土著迦南人中、二邑居民、乃服其役、○ Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth–anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh and of Beth–anath became tributaries unto them.
34 但人爲亞摩利人所逼、使居山地、不許下至平原、 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
35 亞摩利人執意居希烈山、亞雅倫、沙賓、厥後約瑟家勝之、使之服役、 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
36 亞摩利人之界、自亞克拉濱阪、由西拉而上、 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
