| 1 | 亞希多弗謂押沙龍曰、許我簡卒一萬二千、今夜啟行、追襲大衞、 | Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night: |
| 2 | 乘其困憊手弱臨之、使之驚惶、侍從必遁、而我獨擊其王、 | And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only: |
| 3 | 俾衆悉歸於爾、得爾所索之人、則如衆返、而民安焉、 | And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace. |
| 4 | 押沙龍及以色列長老、皆悅此言、 | And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel. |
| 5 | 押沙龍曰、召亞基人、戶篩至、俾得與聞其言、 | Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith. |
| 6 | 戶篩旣至、押沙龍曰、亞希多弗所言若此、可從之乎、否則爾言之、 | And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou. |
| 7 | 戶篩曰、亞希多弗此次之謀不嘉、 | And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time. |
| 8 | 又曰、爾父與其侍從、乃爲英武、爾所知也、今其衷懷暴怒、如熊在野、而亡其子、爾父又嫻戰事、必不宿於民中、 | For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people. |
| 9 | 今必藏於坑坎、或在他所、如爾從者數人先仆、聞者必曰、從押沙龍者見戮、 | Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom. |
| 10 | 則人雖驍勇、心猛如獅、必喪厥膽、蓋以色列族咸知爾父英武、從者亦驍勇、 | And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men. |
| 11 | 我之謀議、悉集以色列衆、自但至別是巴、如海沙之多、爾親出戰、 | Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beer–sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person. |
| 12 | 於其所在、倏然臨之、如露降於土壤、使彼及其侍從、靡有孑遺、 | So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one. |
| 13 | 彼若入城、以色列衆必攜繩至、曳城入河、卷石不遺、 | Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there. |
| 14 | 押沙龍及以色列衆曰、亞基人戶篩之謀、較亞希多弗之謀尤善、蓋耶和華預定敗亞希多弗之謀、以禍押沙龍、○ | And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the Lord had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom. |
| 15 | 戶篩謂祭司撒督亞比亞他曰、亞希多弗爲押沙龍、及以色列長老、所謀如此、我所謀如此、 | Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled. |
| 16 | 宜急遣人告大衞曰、今夜勿宿曠野之津、必濟河、免王與侍從、俱見吞噬、 | Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him. |
| 17 | 時、約拿單亞希瑪斯待於隱羅結、因不可入城、爲人所見、有婢數來告之、則往轉告大衞王、 | Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En–rogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David. |
| 18 | 有孺子見之、以告押沙龍、二人遂急去、至巴戶琳人家、其院有井、二人下焉、 | Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down. |
| 19 | 婦以蓋掩井口、布麥屑於上、而事不洩、 | And the woman took and spread a covering over the well’s mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known. |
| 20 | 押沙龍僕至其家、問婦曰、亞希瑪斯約拿單安在、婦曰、已濟溪矣、索之不得、乃歸耶路撒冷、 | And when Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem. |
| 21 | 去後、二人自井出、往告大衞王曰、亞希多弗設謀害爾、宜起、速濟河、 | And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you. |
| 22 | 大衞與僕從遂起、濟約但、及黎明、民衆悉濟、不遺一人、 | Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan. |
| 23 | 亞希多弗見其所謀不從、卽備驢反故邑、歸私第、處置家事、自縊而死、葬於父墓、○ | And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father. |
| 24 | 大衞至瑪哈念、押沙龍及以色列衆濟約但、 | Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him. |
| 25 | 押沙龍立亞瑪撒爲軍長、以代約押、其人乃以實瑪利人以特拉、與拿轄女亞比該同室而生者、亞比該與約押母洗魯雅爲姊妹、 | And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man’s son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab’s mother. |
| 26 | 押沙龍與以色列衆、建營於基列地、○ | So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead. |
| 27 | 大衞旣至瑪哈念、亞捫族拉巴人拿轄子朔比、與羅底巴人亞米利子瑪吉、曁基列之羅基琳人巴西萊咸至、 | And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo–debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim, |
| 28 | 攜牀盆瓦器、小麥、麰麥、細麪、烘穀、大豆、小豆、烘豆、 | Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse, |
| 29 | 蜜酥與羊、牛酪之餅、以供大衞、及其侍從、蓋曰、民在曠野、飢渴困憊、 | And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness. |
