| 1 | 撒母耳謂掃羅曰、昔耶和華遣我膏爾、立爲其民以色列之王、今爾當聽耶和華言、 | Samuel also said unto Saul, The Lord sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the Lord. |
| 2 | 萬軍之耶和華云、以色列族出埃及時、亞瑪力人若何待之、途間禦之、我記憶焉、 | Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. |
| 3 | 今往擊之、滅其所有、毋加矜恤、男女、童穉、乳子、牛羊駝驢、悉殺戮之、○ | Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. |
| 4 | 掃羅集民於提拉因、核其軍數、步卒二十萬、猶大人一萬、 | And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah. |
| 5 | 掃羅至亞瑪力邑、伏於谷中、 | And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley. |
| 6 | 謂基尼人曰、離亞瑪力人而去、免爾爲我同滅、蓋以色列人出埃及時、爾善待之、基尼人遂離之而去、 | And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. |
| 7 | 掃羅擊亞瑪力人、自哈腓拉、至埃及相對之書珥、 | And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt. |
| 8 | 生擒亞瑪力王亞甲、以刃盡滅其民、 | And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. |
| 9 | 掃羅與民惜亞甲、曁牛羊犢羔之嘉者、及諸美物、不盡滅之、惟陋劣者、則悉殲焉、○ | But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly. |
| 10 | 耶和華諭撒母耳曰、 | Then came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying, |
| 11 | 我立掃羅爲王、今則悔之、以其背我、而不我從、亦不遵行我命、撒母耳怒、終夜籲耶和華、 | It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night. |
| 12 | 夙興、欲迓掃羅、或告之曰、掃羅至迦密立碑、轉往吉甲、 | And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal. |
| 13 | 撒母耳就掃羅、掃羅曰、願耶和華錫嘏於爾、耶和華所命、我已行之、 | And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the Lord: I have performed the commandment of the Lord. |
| 14 | 撒母耳曰、然則我聞羊鳴牛鳴、是何意耶、 | And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? |
| 15 | 掃羅曰、乃衆自亞瑪力攜至、蓋民惜其牛羊之嘉者、欲以祭爾上帝耶和華、其餘我儕盡滅之、 | And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed. |
| 16 | 撒母耳曰、姑少待、我以耶和華前夕諭我者告爾、曰、請言之、 | Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the Lord hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on. |
| 17 | 撒母耳曰、昔爾自視雖微、非立爲以色列支派之長乎、耶和華膏爾爲以色列王、 | And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel? |
| 18 | 遣爾就途曰、爾往盡滅罪人亞瑪力族、戰而殲之、 | And the Lord sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed. |
| 19 | 爾何不聽耶和華言、急於刦奪、行耶和華所惡、 | Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the Lord? |
| 20 | 掃羅曰、我實聽耶和華言、往所遣我之途、虜亞瑪力王亞甲、盡滅亞瑪力人、 | And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. |
| 21 | 惟所獲當滅之牛羊、民取其嘉者、欲在吉甲、以祭爾上帝耶和華、 | But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal. |
| 22 | 撒母耳曰、耶和華豈喜燔祭及他祭、如喜聽其言乎、夫順服愈於祭祀、聽從愈於羊脂、 | And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. |
| 23 | 違逆與卜筮同罪、頑梗與拜偶像事家神同科、爾棄耶和華命、耶和華亦棄爾、不使爲王、 | For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king. |
| 24 | 掃羅曰、我干罪矣、我畏斯民、聽從其言、故違耶和華命、及爾之言、 | And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. |
| 25 | 今則請赦我罪、偕我旋歸、俾我崇拜耶和華、 | Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord. |
| 26 | 撒母耳曰、我不偕爾旋歸、蓋爾棄耶和華命、耶和華亦棄爾、不使爲以色列王、 | And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel. |
| 27 | 撒母耳轉而欲行、掃羅執其衣裾、裾裂、 | And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent. |
| 28 | 撒母耳曰、是日耶和華裂以色列國、使之離爾、以賜爾鄰、賢於爾者、 | And Samuel said unto him, The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou. |
| 29 | 以色列所恃者、必不誑言、亦不回意、蓋非世人、決不回意也、 | And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent. |
| 30 | 掃羅曰、我干罪矣、雖然、求爾於我民之長老、及以色列衆前尊我、偕我旋歸、俾我崇拜爾上帝耶和華、 | Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord thy God. |
| 31 | 於是撒母耳轉隨其後、掃羅則崇拜耶和華、○ | So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the Lord. |
| 32 | 撒母耳曰、攜亞瑪力王亞甲至我、亞甲懽然而來、曰、死亡之苦、庶乎免矣、 | Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past. |
| 33 | 撒母耳曰、爾之刃使婦無子、則爾之母、於婦中亦必無子、遂在吉甲、於耶和華前、斫亞甲而碎之、 | And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal. |
| 34 | 撒母耳往拉瑪、掃羅往基比亞、歸其家、 | Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul. |
| 35 | 撒母耳至於沒日、不復往見掃羅、爲之懷憂、耶和華立掃羅爲以色列王、亦悔之、 | And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel. |
