The Is In Charge
The Lord controls rulers, just as he determines the course of rivers.
The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
We may think we are doing the right thing, but the Lord always knows what is in our hearts. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.
Doing what is right and fair pleases the Lord more than an offering. To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Evil people are proud and arrogant, but sin is the only crop they produce. An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
If you plan and work hard, you will have plenty; if you hurry to get rich, you will end up poor. The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
Cheating to get rich is a foolish dream and no less than suicide. The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
You destroy yourself by being cruel and violent and refusing to live right. The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
All crooks are liars, but anyone who is innocent will do right. The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.
It's better to stay outside on the roof of your house than to live inside with a nagging wife. It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
Evil people want to do wrong, even to their friends. The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
An ignorant fool learns by seeing others punished; a sensible person learns by being instructed. When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
God is always fair! He knows what the wicked do and will punish them. The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
If you won't help the poor, don't expect to be heard when you cry out for help. Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
A secret bribe will save you from someone's fierce anger. A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.
When justice is done, good citizens are glad and crooks are terrified. It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
If you stop using good sense, you will find yourself in the grave. The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
Heavy drinkers and others who live only for pleasure will lose all they have. He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
God's people will escape, but all who are wicked will pay the price. The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
It's better out in the desert than at home with a nagging, complaining wife. It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
Be sensible and store up precious treasures— don't waste them like a fool. There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
If you try to be kind and good, you will be blessed with life and goodness and honor. He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
One wise person can defeat a city full of soldiers and capture their fortress. A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
Watching what you say can save you a lot of trouble. Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
If you are proud and conceited, everyone will say, “You're a snob!” Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
If you want too much and are too lazy to work, it could be fatal. The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
But people who obey God are always generous. He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
The Lord despises the offerings of wicked people with evil motives. The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
If you tell lies in court, you are done for; only a reliable witness can do the job. A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
Wicked people bluff their way, but God's people think before they take a step. A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.
No matter how much you know or what plans you make, you can't defeat the Lord. There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.
Even if your army has horses ready for battle, the Lord will always win. The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.
