Jesus Washes the Feet of His Disciples
It was before Passover, and Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and to return to the Father. He had always loved his followers in this world, and he loved them to the very end.
Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 Even before the evening meal started, the devil had made Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, decide to betray Jesus. And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him;
3 Jesus knew he had come from God and would go back to God. He also knew that the Father had given him complete power. Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 So during the meal Jesus got up, removed his outer garment, and wrapped a towel around his waist. He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 He put some water into a large bowl. Then he began washing his disciples' feet and drying them with the towel he was wearing. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 But when he came to Simon Peter, this disciple asked, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered, “You don't really know what I am doing, but later you will understand.” Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 “You will never wash my feet!” Peter replied. “If I don't wash you,” Jesus told him, “you don't really belong to me.” Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 Peter said, “Lord, don't wash just my feet. Wash my hands and my head.” Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus answered, “People who have bathed and are clean all over need to wash just their feet. And you, my disciples, are clean, except for one of you.” Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 Jesus knew who would betray him. That is why he said, “except for one of you.” For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 After Jesus had washed his disciples' feet and had put his outer garment back on, he sat down again. Then he said: Do you understand what I have done? So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 You call me your teacher and Lord, and you should, because that is who I am. Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 And if your Lord and teacher has washed your feet, you should do the same for each other. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15 I have set the example, and you should do for each other exactly what I have done for you. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 I tell you for certain that servants are not greater than their master, and messengers are not greater than the one who sent them. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 You know these things, and God will bless you, if you do them. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18 I am not talking about all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But what the Scriptures say must come true. And they say, “The man who ate with me has turned against me!” I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
19 I am telling you this before it all happens. Then when it does happen, you will believe who I am. Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20 I tell you for certain that anyone who welcomes my messengers also welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. (; ; ) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Jesus Tells What Will Happen to Him
After Jesus had said these things, he was deeply troubled and told his disciples, “I tell you for certain that one of you will betray me.”
When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 They were confused about what he meant. And they just stared at each other. Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 Jesus' favorite disciple was sitting next to him at the meal, Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 and Simon motioned for this disciple to find out which one Jesus meant. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 So the disciple leaned toward Jesus and asked, “Lord, which one of us are you talking about?” He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 Jesus answered, “I will dip this piece of bread in the sauce and give it to the one I was talking about.” Then Jesus dipped the bread and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 Right then Satan took control of Judas. Jesus said, “Judas, go quickly and do what you have to do.” And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28 No one at the meal understood what Jesus meant. Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 But because Judas was in charge of the money, some of them thought that Jesus had told him to buy something they needed for the festival. Others thought that Jesus had told him to give some money to the poor. For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
30 Judas took the piece of bread and went out. It was already night. He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.

The New Command
After Judas had gone, Jesus said: Now the Son of Man will be given glory, and he will bring glory to God.
Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 Then, after God is given glory because of him, God will bring glory to him, and God will do it very soon. If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
33 My children, I will be with you for only a little while longer. Then you will look for me, but you won't find me. I tell you just as I told the people, “You cannot go where I am going.” Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
34 But I am giving you a new command. You must love each other, just as I have loved you. A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 If you love each other, everyone will know that you are my disciples. (; ; ) By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Peter's Promise
Simon Peter asked, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered, “You can't go with me now, but later on you will.”
Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can't I go with you now? I would die for you!” Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38 “Would you really die for me?” Jesus asked. “I tell you for certain before a rooster crows, you will say three times that you don't even know me.” Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
