Elijah Stops the Rain
Elijah was a prophet from Tishbe in Gilead. One day he went to King Ahab and said, “I'm a servant of the living Lord, the God of Israel. And I swear in his name that it won't rain until I say so. There won't even be any dew on the ground.”
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 Later, the Lord said to Elijah, And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 “Leave and go across the Jordan River so you can hide near Cherith Creek. Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4 You can drink water from the creek, and eat the food I've told the ravens to bring you.” And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 Elijah obeyed the Lord and went to live near Cherith Creek. So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
6 Ravens brought him bread and meat twice a day, and he drank water from the creek. And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
7 But after a while, it dried up because there was no rain. And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

Elijah Helps a Widow in Zarephath
The Lord told Elijah,
And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 “Go to the town of Zarephath in Sidon and live there. I've told a widow in that town to give you food.” Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10 When Elijah came near the town gate of Zarephath, he saw a widow gathering sticks for a fire. “Would you please bring me a cup of water?” he asked. So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 As she left to get it, he asked, “Would you also please bring me a piece of bread?” And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 The widow answered, “In the name of the living Lord your God, I swear that I don't have any bread. All I have is a handful of flour and a little olive oil. I'm on my way home now with these few sticks to cook what I have for my son and me. After that, we will starve to death.” And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 Elijah said, “Everything will be fine. Do what you said. Go home and fix something for you and your son. But first, please make a small piece of bread and bring it to me. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 The Lord God of Israel has promised that your jar of flour won't run out and your bottle of oil won't dry up before he sends rain for the crops.” For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 The widow went home and did exactly what Elijah had told her. She and Elijah and her family had enough food for a long time. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 The Lord kept the promise that his prophet Elijah had made, and she did not run out of flour or oil. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.

Elijah Brings a Boy Back to Life
Several days later, the son of the woman who owned the house got sick, and he kept getting worse, until finally he died.
And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 The woman shouted at Elijah, “What have I done to you? I thought you were God's prophet. Did you come here to cause the death of my son as a reminder that I've sinned against God?” And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 “Bring me your son,” Elijah said. Then he took the boy from her arms and carried him upstairs to the room where he was staying. Elijah laid the boy on his bed And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 and prayed, “Lord God, why did you do such a terrible thing to this woman? She's letting me stay here, and now you've let her son die.” And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 Elijah stretched himself out over the boy three times, while praying, “Lord God, bring this boy back to life!” And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
22 The Lord answered Elijah's prayer, and the boy started breathing again. And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 Elijah picked him up and carried him downstairs. He gave the boy to his mother and said, “Look, your son is alive.” And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 “You are God's prophet!” the woman replied. “Now I know that you really do speak for the Lord.” And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
