(A psalm by David for the music leader.) / A Prayer in Time of Sickness You, Lord God, bless everyone who cares for the poor, and you rescue those people in times of trouble.
Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. |
You protect them and keep them alive. You make them happy here in this land, and you don't hand them over to their enemies. | The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
You always heal them and restore their strength when they are sick. | The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
I prayed, “Have pity, Lord! Heal me, though I have sinned against you.” | I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
My vicious enemies ask me, “When will you die and be forgotten?” | Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
When visitors come, all they ever bring are worthless words, and when they leave, they spread gossip. | And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
My enemies whisper about me. They think the worst, | All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.
and they say, “You have some fatal disease! You'll never get well.” | An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
My most trusted friend has turned against me, though he ate at my table. | Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
Have pity, Lord! Heal me, so I can pay them back. | But thou, O Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
Then my enemies won't defeat me, and I will know that you really care. | By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
You have helped me because I am innocent, and you will always be close to my side. | And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.
You, the Lord God of Israel, will be praised forever! Amen and amen. | Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
