(By David.) / A Prayer of Praise You, Lord, are the light that keeps me safe. I am not afraid of anyone. You protect me, and I have no fears.
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? |
Brutal people may attack and try to kill me, but they will stumble. Fierce enemies may attack, but they will fall. | When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
Armies may surround me, but I won't be afraid; war may break out, but I will trust you. | Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
I ask only one thing, Lord: Let me live in your house every day of my life to see how wonderful you are and to pray in your temple. | One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.
In times of trouble, Lord, you will protect me. You will hide me in your tent and keep me safe on top of a mighty rock. | For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
You will let me defeat all my enemies. Then I will celebrate, as I enter your tent with animal sacrifices and songs of praise. | And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.
Please listen when I pray! Have pity. Answer my prayer. | Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
My heart tells me to pray. I am eager to see your face, | When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.
so don't hide from me. I am your servant, Lord, and you have helped me. Don't turn from me in anger. You alone keep me safe. Don't reject or desert me. | Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
Even if my father and mother should desert me, you will take care of me. | When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.
Teach me to follow, Lord, and lead me on the right path because of my enemies. | Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
Don't let them do to me what they want. People tell lies about me and make violent threats, | Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
but I know I will live to see how kind you are. | I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Trust the Lord! Be brave and strong and trust the Lord. | Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
