1
(A special psalm and a prayer by David when he was in the cave.) / A Prayer for Help
I pray to you, Lord. I beg for mercy.
I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication.
2 I tell you all my worries and my troubles, I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.
3 and whenever I feel low, you are there to guide me. A trap has been hidden along my pathway. When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.
4 Even if you look, you won't see anyone who cares enough to walk beside me. There is no place to hide, and no one who really cares. I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.
5 I pray to you, Lord! You are my place of safety, and you are my choice in the land of the living. Please answer my prayer. I am completely helpless. I cried unto thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.
6 Help! They are chasing me, and they are too strong. Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.
7 Rescue me from this prison, so I can praise your name. And when your people notice your wonderful kindness to me, they will rush to my side. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
