절Contemporary English Version (2006)King James Version
1 From Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I encourage God's own people to have more faith and to understand the truth about religion. Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
2 Then they will have the hope of eternal life God promised long ago. And God never tells a lie! In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
3 So, at the proper time, God our Savior gave this message and told me to announce what he had said. But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
4 Titus, because of our faith, you are like a son to me. I pray that God our Father and Christ Jesus our Savior will be kind to you and will bless you with peace! To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

What Titus Was To Do in Crete
I left you in Crete to do what had been left undone and to appoint leaders for the churches in each town. As I told you,
For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
6 they must have a good reputation and be faithful in marriage. Their children must be followers of the Lord and not have a reputation for being wild and disobedient. If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
7 Church officials are in charge of God's work, and so they must also have a good reputation. They must not be bossy, quick-tempered, heavy drinkers, bullies, or dishonest in business. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8 Instead, they must be friendly to strangers and enjoy doing good things. They must also be sensible, fair, pure, and self-controlled. But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9 They must stick to the true message they were taught, so their good teaching can help others and correct everyone who opposes it. Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
10 There are many who don't respect authority, and they fool others by talking nonsense. This is especially true of some Jewish followers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
11 But you must make them be quiet. They are after money, and they upset whole families by teaching what they should not. Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.
12 It is like one of their own prophets once said, “The people of Crete always tell lies. They are greedy and lazy like wild animals.” One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
13 This surely is a true saying. And you should be hard on such people, so you can help them grow stronger in their faith. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
14 Don't pay any attention to any of those senseless Jewish stories and human commands. These are made up by people who won't obey the truth. Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
15 Everything is pure for someone whose heart is pure. But nothing is pure for an unbeliever with a dirty mind. That person's mind and conscience are destroyed. Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
16 Such people claim to know God, but their actions prove they really don't. They are disgusting. They won't obey God, and they are too worthless to do anything good. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
