One Sheep
Tax collectors and sinners were all crowding around to listen to Jesus.
Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
2 So the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law of Moses started grumbling, “This man is friendly with sinners. He even eats with them.” And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
3 Then Jesus told them this story: And he spake this parable unto them, saying,
4 If any of you has 100 sheep, and one of them gets lost, what will you do? Won't you leave the 99 in the field and go look for the lost sheep until you find it? What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
5 And when you find it, you will be so glad that you will put it on your shoulder And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 and carry it home. Then you will call in your friends and neighbors and say, “Let's celebrate! I've found my lost sheep.” And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
7 Jesus said, “In the same way there is more happiness in heaven because of one sinner who turns to God than over 99 good people who don't need to.” I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

One Coin
Jesus told the people another story: What will a woman do if she has ten silver coins and loses one of them? Won't she light a lamp, sweep the floor, and look carefully until she finds it?
Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
9 Then she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, “Let's celebrate! I've found the coin I lost.” And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
10 Jesus said, “In the same way God's angels are happy when even one person turns to him.” Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
11
Two Sons
Jesus told them yet another story: Once a man had two sons.
And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 The younger son said to his father, “Give me my share of the property.” So the father divided his property between his two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 Not long after that, the younger son packed up everything he owned and left for a foreign country, where he wasted all his money in wild living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14 He had spent everything, when a bad famine spread through that whole land. Soon he had nothing to eat. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 He went to work for a man in that country, and the man sent him out to take care of his pigs. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 He would have been glad to eat what the pigs were eating, but no one gave him a thing. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 Finally, he came to his senses and said, “My father's workers have plenty to eat, and here I am, starving to death! And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will go to my father and say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against God in heaven and against you. I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 I am no longer good enough to be called your son. Treat me like one of your workers.’ ” And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 The younger son got up and started back to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt sorry for him. He ran to his son and hugged and kissed him. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 The son said, “Father, I have sinned against God in heaven and against you. I am no longer good enough to be called your son.” And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But his father said to the servants, “Hurry and bring the best clothes and put them on him. Give him a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23 Get the best calf and prepare it, so we can eat and celebrate. And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24 This son of mine was dead, but has now come back to life. He was lost and has now been found.” And they began to celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25 The older son had been out in the field. But when he came near the house, he heard the music and dancing. Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
26 So he called one of the servants over and asked, “What's going on here?” And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 The servant answered, “Your brother has come home safe and sound, and your father ordered us to kill the best calf.” And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 The older brother got so angry that he would not even go into the house. His father came out and begged him to go in. And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29 But he said to his father, “For years I have worked for you like a slave and have always obeyed you. But you have never even given me a little goat, so that I could give a dinner for my friends. And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 This other son of yours wasted your money on prostitutes. And now that he has come home, you ordered the best calf to be killed for a feast.” But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31 His father replied, “My son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 But we should be glad and celebrate! Your brother was dead, but he is now alive. He was lost and has now been found.” It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
