The Money for God's People I don't need to write you about the money you plan to give for God's people.
For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: |
I know how eager you are to give. And I have proudly told the Lord's followers in Macedonia that you people in Achaia have been ready for a whole year. Now your desire to give has made them want to give. | For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many.
This is why I am sending Titus and the two others to you. I want you to be ready, just as I promised. This will prove we were not wrong to brag about you. | Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready:
Some followers from Macedonia may come with me, and I want them to find that you have the money ready. If you don't, I would be embarrassed for trusting you to do this. But you would be embarrassed even more. | Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting.
So I have decided to ask Titus and the others to spend some time with you before I arrive. This way they can arrange to collect the money you have promised. Then you will have the chance to give because you want to, and not because you feel forced to. | Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.
Remember this saying, “A few seeds make a small harvest, but a lot of seeds make a big harvest.” | But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
Each of you must make up your own mind about how much to give. But don't feel sorry that you must give and don't feel you are forced to give. God loves people who love to give. | Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
God can bless you with everything you need, and you will always have more than enough to do all kinds of good things for others. | And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
The Scriptures say, “God freely gives his gifts to the poor, and always does right.” | (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
God gives seed to farmers and provides everyone with food. He will increase what you have, so you can give even more to those in need. | Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
You will be blessed in every way, and you will be able to keep on being generous. Then many people will thank God when we deliver your gift. | Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
What you are doing is much more than a service that supplies God's people with what they need. It is something that will make many others thank God. | For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;
The way in which you have proved yourselves by this service will bring honor and praise to God. You believed the message about Christ, and you obeyed it by sharing generously with God's people and with everyone else. | Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men;
Now they are praying for you and want to see you, because God used you to bless them so very much. | And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.
Thank God for his gift that is too wonderful for words! | Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
