| 1 | Tedy odpovídaje Bildad Suchský, řekl: | Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, |
| 2 | Dokudž mluviti budeš takové věci, a slova úst tvých budou jako vítr násilný? | How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind? |
| 3 | Což by Bůh silný neprávě soudil, a Všemohoucí což by převracel spravedlnost? | Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice? |
| 4 | Synové zajisté tvoji že zhřešili proti němu, proto pustil je po nepravosti jejich. | If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression; |
| 5 | Kdybys ty opravdově hledal Boha silného, a Všemohoucímu se modlil, | If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; |
| 6 | A byl čistý a upřímý: jistě žeť by se hned probudil k tobě, a napravil by příbytek spravedlnosti tvé. | If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous. |
| 7 | A byly by první věci tvé špatné, poslední pak rozmnožily by se náramně. | Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase. |
| 8 | Nebo vzeptej se, prosím, věku starého, a nastroj se k zpytování otců jejich. | For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: |
| 9 | (Myť zajisté včerejší jsme, aniž jsme čeho povědomi; k tomu dnové naši jsou jako stín na zemi.) | (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) |
| 10 | Zdaliž tě oni nenaučí, a nepovědí tobě, a z srdce svého nevynesou-liž slov? | Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart? |
| 11 | Zdali roste třtí bez bahna? Roste-liž rákosí bez vody? | Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water? |
| 12 | Nýbrž ještě za zelena, dříve než vytrháno bývá, ano prvé než jaká jiná tráva, usychá. | Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb. |
| 13 | Tak stezky všech zapomínajících se na Boha silného, tak, pravím, naděje pokrytce zahyne. | So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish: |
| 14 | Klesne naděje jeho, a doufání jeho jako dům pavouka. | Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider’s web. |
| 15 | Spolehne-li na dům svůj, neostojí; chytí-li se ho, nezdrží. | He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. |
| 16 | Vláhu má před sluncem, tak že z zahrady jeho výstřelkové jeho vynikají. | He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden. |
| 17 | Při vrchovišti kořenové jeho hustě rostou, i na místech skalnatých rozkládá se. | His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones. |
| 18 | A však bývá-li zachvácen z místa svého, až by se ho i odečtlo, řka: Nevidělo jsem tě: | If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee. |
| 19 | Tožť ta radost života jeho, a z země jiný vykvetá. | Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow. |
| 20 | Aj, Bůh silný nepohrdá upřímým, ale nešlechetným ruky nepodává: | Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers: |
| 21 | Až i naplní smíchem ústa tvá, a rty tvé plésáním, | Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. |
| 22 | Když nenávidící tebe v hanbu oblečeni budou, a stánku lidí bezbožných nikdež nebude. | They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought. |
