절Czech BKRKing James Version
Pavel, služebník Boží, apoštol pak Ježíše Krista, podlé víry vyvolených Božích, a známosti pravdy, kteráž jest podlé pobožnosti, Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
K naději života věčného, kterýž zaslíbil před časy věků ten, kterýž nikdy neklamá, Bůh, In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Zjevil pak časy svými to slovo své, skrze kázaní mně svěřené, podlé zřízení spasitele našeho Boha, But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
Titovi, vlastnímu synu u víře obecné: Milost, milosrdenství a pokoj od Boha Otce a Pána Jezukrista spasitele našeho. To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Z té příčiny zanechal jsem tebe v Krétě, abys to, čehož tam ještě potřebí, spravil, a ustanovil po městech starší, jakož i já při tobě jsem zřídil, For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
Jest-li kdo bez úhony, jedné manželky muž, dítky maje věřící, na kteréž by nemohlo touženo býti, že by byli bůjní, aneb nepoddaní. If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
Neboť biskup má býti bez úhony, jako Boží šafář, ne svémyslný, ne hněvivý, ne piján vína, ne bitec, ne žádostivý mrzkého zisku, For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
Ale přívětivý k hostem, milovník dobrých, opatrný, spravedlivý, svatý, zdrželivý, But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
Pilně se přídržící věrné řeči k vyučování dostatečné, aby mohl i napomínati učením zdravým, i ty, kteříž odpírají, přemáhati. Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
Neboť jsou mnozí nepoddaní, marnomluvní, i svůdcové myslí, zvláště ti, kteříž jsou z obřízky. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
Jimž musejí ústa zacpána býti; kteříž celé domy převracejí, učíce neslušným věcem, pro mrzký zisk. Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.
Řekl jeden z nich, vlastní jejich prorok: Kretenští jsou vždycky lháři, zlá hovada, břicha lenivá. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
Svědectví to pravé jest. A protož tresciž je přísně, ať jsou zdraví u víře, This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
Nešetříce Židovských básní a přikázaní lidí těch, kteříž se odvracují od pravdy. Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
Všecko zajisté čisté jest čistým, poškvrněným pak a nevěřícím nic není čistého, ale poškvrněna jest i mysl jejich i svědomí. Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
Vypravují o tom, že Boha znají, ale skutky svými toho zapírají, ohavní jsouce, a nepoddaní, a ke všelikému skutku dobrému nehodní. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
