1 En læresalme av Asaf. Hvorfor, Gud, har du forkastet oss for evig tid? Hvorfor ryker din vrede mot den hjord du før? O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
2 Kom i hu din menighet, som du vant din i fordums tid, som du gjenløste til å være din arvs stamme, Sions berg, hvor du tok bolig! Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
3 Opløft dine trin til de evige grushoper! Alt har fienden fordervet i helligdommen. Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
4 Dine motstandere har brølt midt i ditt forsamlingshus; de har satt sine egne tegn op til tegn. Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.
5 Det var et syn som når økser løftes i tykke skogen. A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.
6 Og nu, alt det som fantes av billedverk, det slo de sønder med øks og hammer. But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
7 De har satt ild på din helligdom; like til grunnen har de vanhelliget ditt navns bolig. They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.
8 De har sagt i sitt hjerte: Vi vil ødelegge dem alle tilsammen! De har opbrent alle Guds forsamlingshus i landet. They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
9 Våre egne tegn ser vi ikke; det er ikke nogen profet mere, ikke nogen hos oss som vet hvor lenge det skal vare. We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
10 Hvor lenge, Gud, skal motstanderen håne, fienden forakte ditt navn evindelig? O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
11 Hvorfor drar du din hånd, din høire hånd tilbake? Ta den ut av din barm og ødelegg! Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.
12 Gud er dog min konge fra fordums tid, han som skaper frelse på den vide jord. For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Du er den som skilte havet med din styrke, knuste dragenes hoder på vannene. Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.
14 Du sønderslo Leviatans hoder, du gav den til føde for ørkenens folk. Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
15 Du lot kilde og bekk bryte frem, du uttørket evige strømmer. Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.
16 Dig hører dagen til, dig også natten; du har skapt himmellysene og solen. The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
17 Du har fastsatt alle jordens grenser; sommer og vinter - du har dannet dem. Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.
18 Kom dette i hu: Fienden har hånet Herren, og et dårlig folk har foraktet ditt navn! Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.
19 Overgi ikke din turteldue til den mordlystne skare, glem ikke dine elendiges skare evindelig! O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.
20 Se til pakten! For landets mørke steder er fulle av volds boliger. Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.
21 La ikke den undertrykte vende tilbake med skam, la den elendige og fattige love ditt navn! O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.
22 Reis dig, Gud, før din sak, kom i hu at du blir hånet av dåren hele dagen! Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.
23 Glem ikke dine fienders røst, dine motstanderes bulder, som stiger op all tid! Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.
