1	Gott und die Nachkommen Jakobs / Die Geschichte eines Betrügers Efraim spinnt ein Netz aus Lügen um mich, und das Haus Israel versucht es mit Betrug. Auch Juda schwankt im Umgang mit Gott, mit dem Heiligen, der fest zu ihm steht.	Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.
2	Efraim macht viel Wind und läuft dem Sturm nach. Tag für Tag wird es schlimmer mit Lüge und Gewalt. Sie schmieden ein Bündnis mit Assyrien und liefern gleichzeitig Öl nach Ägypten.	The Lord hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
3	Auch mit Juda geht der Herr ins Gericht. Gegen die Nachkommen Jakobs wird er vorgehen. Denn Jakob hat es so verdient. Für seine Taten zieht Gott ihn zur Rechenschaft.	He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
4	Schon im Mutterleib betrog Jakob seinen Bruder. Als er ein Mann war, kämpfte er mit Gott.	Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth–el, and there he spake with us;
5	Er kämpfte mit Gottes Engel und kam davon. Denn er weinte und bettelte um Gnade. Bet-El war der Ort, an dem Gott ihn fand und mit ihm redete.	Even the Lord God of hosts; the Lord is his memorial.
6	Herr – das ist sein Name! Der Herr, der Gott Zebaot, sagte:	Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
7	»Du wirst mithilfe deines Gottes heimkehren. Halt fest an der Liebe und am Recht! Setz deine Hoffnung stets auf deinen Gott!«	He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
8	Efraim ist wie ein Händler aus Kanaan: Er betrügt mit falscher Waage und liebt Erpressung.	And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.
9	Efraim redete sich ein: »Ja, ich bin reich geworden, ich habe mir ein Vermögen erworben. Doch bei allem, was ich an mich brachte, habe ich mir nichts zuschulden kommen lassen. Niemand kann mir ein Unrecht nachweisen.«	And I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
10	Ich aber bin der Herr, dein Gott. Aus dem Land Ägypten bin ich dir bekannt: »Ich lasse dich wieder in Zelten wohnen – wie damals, als ich dir in der Wüste begegnet bin.«	I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
11	Ich redete immer wieder zu den Propheten. Ich schenkte ihnen viele Visionen. Ich ließ die Propheten Gleichnisse erzählen.	Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
12	Doch Gilead hat es schlimm getrieben. Darum muss die Stadt vom Erdboden verschwinden. In Gilgal brachten sie Stiere als Schlachtopfer dar. Darum sollen ihre Altäre zu Steinhaufen werden, wie man sie am Rand eines Ackers findet.	And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
13	Jakob war in das Gebiet der Aramäer geflohen. Dort wurde Israel zum Knecht wegen einer Frau. Ja, wegen einer Frau hütete er Schafe und Ziegen.	And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
14	Der Herr aber führte sein Volk Israel durch einen Propheten aus dem Land Ägypten. Ja, durch einen Propheten hütete er sein Volk.	Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
15	Efraim hat seinen Gott bitter enttäuscht. Darum rächt sein Herr das Blut, das Efraim vergossen hat. Er lässt Efraims schändliches Tun auf ihn zurückfallen.	—
