1	Joschafat, der König von Juda, kehrte wohlbehalten nach Jerusalem in seinen Palast zurück.	And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.
2	Der Seher Jehu, der Sohn des Hanani, trat König Joschafat entgegen und sagte zu ihm: »Musstest du diesem Frevler helfen und die lieben, die den Herrn hassen? Deswegen hättest du es verdient, dass der Herr zornig auf dich ist.	And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.
3	Aber es findet sich auch Gutes bei dir: Du hast die Kultpfähle aus dem Land geschafft und dein Herz fest darauf gerichtet, Gott zu suchen.«	Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.
4	Joschafats Rechtsreform Joschafat herrschte nun in Jerusalem. Von dort aus zog er in seinem Volk umher von Beerscheba bis zum Gebirge Efraim. Er sorgte dafür, dass die Leute sich wieder dem Herrn zuwandten, dem Gott ihrer Vorfahren.	And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer–sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the Lord God of their fathers.
5	Dann bestellte er Richter im ganzen Land, in allen befestigten Städten Judas, Stadt für Stadt.	And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,
6	Er sagte zu den Richtern: »Bedenkt, was ihr tut! Nicht im Auftrag von Menschen haltet ihr Gericht, sondern im Auftrag des Herrn. Er wird mit euch sein, wenn ihr Recht sprecht.	And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.
7	Ehrfurcht vor dem Herrn soll euch leiten. Übt euer Amt gewissenhaft aus. Denn bei dem Herrn, unserem Gott, gibt es weder Unredlichkeit noch Parteilichkeit noch Bestechlichkeit.«	Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
8	Joschafat regelte in Jerusalem auch den Dienst der Priester, Leviten und Familienoberhäupter Israels. Sie sollten das Gesetz des Herrn anwenden bei Streitigkeiten der Bewohner Jerusalems.	Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the Lord, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
9	Joschafat befahl: »So handelt ihr in Ehrfurcht vor dem Herrn: Seid zuverlässig und mit ganzem Herzen bei der Sache!	And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
10	Eure Verwandten, die in den Städten wohnen, werden euch ihre Streitigkeiten vorlegen. Da kann es um Mord und Totschlag gehen – oder es geht um einen Gegensatz zwischen der Weisung und anderen Gesetzen, Geboten und Anordnungen. Ermahnt eure Verwandten, damit sie nicht vor dem Herrn schuldig werden. Sonst kommt sein Zorn über sie und euch! Macht ihr aber alles so, wie ich es gesagt habe, macht ihr euch nicht schuldig.	And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the Lord, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass.
11	Der oberste Priester Amarja ist als Erster zuständig für alle Angelegenheiten des Herrn. Sebadja, der Sohn des Jischmael und Vorsteher des Hauses Juda, ist zuständig für alle Angelegenheiten des Königs. Die Leviten dienen auch als Schreiber. Geht entschlossen an die Arbeit! Der Herr wird mit dem Guten sein.«	And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good.
