1	Gott spricht zum ersten Mal mit Samuel Der junge Samuel tat Dienst für den Herrn unter der Aufsicht des Priesters Eli. Zu dieser Zeit kam es nur noch selten vor, dass der Herr ein Wort mitteilte. Weit und breit gab es auch keine Vision mehr.	And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2	Eines Tages geschah Folgendes: Eli war bereits zu Bett gegangen. Seine Augen waren im Alter schwach geworden, sodass er kaum noch etwas sehen konnte.	And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3	Samuel aber legte sich im Tempel des Herrn hin, wo die Lade Gottes stand. Die Lampe Gottes brannte noch.	And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4	Da rief der Herr den Samuel. Der antwortete: »Hier bin ich!«	That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
5	Schnell lief er zu Eli hinüber und sagte: »Ja, hier bin ich, du hast mich gerufen.« Eli erwiderte: »Nein, ich habe dich nicht gerufen. Zurück ins Bett!« Da ging er zurück und legte sich schlafen.	And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6	Doch der Herr rief noch einmal: »Samuel!« Wieder stand Samuel auf, lief zu Eli und sagte: »Ja, hier bin ich, du hast mich gerufen.« Er antwortete: »Nein, ich habe dich nicht gerufen. Zurück ins Bett, mein Sohn!«	And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
7	Samuel aber erkannte nicht, dass der Herr ihn gerufen hatte. Denn er hatte noch nie ein Wort des Herrn erhalten.	Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.
8	Der Herr rief den Samuel ein drittes Mal. Wieder stand er auf, ging zu Eli und sagte: »Ja, hier bin ich, du hast mich doch gerufen.« Da merkte Eli, dass der Herr den Jungen rief.	And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.
9	Eli sagte zu Samuel: »Leg dich wieder hin! Und wenn er dich nochmals ruft, dann antworte: Rede, Herr, dein Knecht hört!« Samuel legte sich wieder hin an seinen Platz.	Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10	Da kam der Herr und trat zu ihm hin. Er rief wie die anderen Male: »Samuel, Samuel!« Und Samuel antwortete: »Rede, dein Knecht hört!«	And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
11	Da sprach der Herr zu Samuel: »Siehe, ich werde Israel etwas antun! Davon werden allen, die es hören, die Ohren wehtun! –	And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
12	An dem Tag lasse ich alles in Erfüllung gehen, was ich Eli und seinem Haus angedroht habe. Alles wird eintreffen, von Anfang bis Ende.	In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
13	Denn ich habe ihm angekündigt, dass ich sein Haus für immer verurteile. Er kannte ja die Schuld: Seine Söhne haben Gott missachtet, er aber hat sie nicht daran gehindert.	For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
14	Darum habe ich dem Haus Elis geschworen: Die Schuld, die auf seinem Haus liegt, kann niemals vergeben werden. Sie kann nicht wiedergutgemacht werden, nicht durch Schlachtopfer und nicht durch Opfergaben.«	And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
15	Samuel schlief bis zum Morgen, dann öffnete er die Türen vom Haus des Herrn. Samuel aber fürchtete sich davor, Eli von der Erscheinung zu berichten.	And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.
16	Da rief Eli Samuel zu sich und sagte: »Samuel, mein Sohn!« Er antwortete: »Ja, hier bin ich!«	Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.
17	Dann fragte er ihn: »Was für ein Wort hat Gott zu dir gesagt? Verheimliche nichts vor mir! Gott soll dir antun, was immer er will, wenn du auch nur ein einziges Wort verheimlichst! Berichte mir alles, was er zu dir gesagt hat!«	And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.
18	Da erzählte Samuel alles und verheimlichte nichts. Eli aber sagte: »Ja, es war der Herr, der das gesagt hat. Er wird tun, was er für richtig hält.«	And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good.
19	Samuel wuchs heran und der Herr war mit ihm. Er ließ keines von allen seinen Worten unerfüllt, die er durch Samuel mitteilen ließ.	And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
20	So erkannte ganz Israel von Dan bis Beerscheba, dass Samuel wirklich ein Prophet des Herrn war.	And all Israel from Dan even to Beer–sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.
21	Und der Herr erschien weiterhin in Schilo. Ja, der Herr offenbarte sich Samuel in Schilo und teilte ihm das Wort des Herrn mit.	And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.
