| 1 | A Sabedoria já edificou a sua casa, já lavrou as suas sete columnas. | Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: |
| 2 | Já sacrificou as suas victimas, misturou o seu vinho: e já preparou a sua mesa. | She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. |
| 3 | Já mandou as suas creadas, já anda convidando desde as alturas da cidade, dizendo: | She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, |
| 4 | Quem é simples, volte-se para aqui. Aos faltos d'entendimento diz: | Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, |
| 5 | Vinde, comei do meu pão, e bebei do vinho que tenho misturado. | Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. |
| 6 | Deixae a parvoice, e vivei; e andae pelo caminho do entendimento. | Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. |
| 7 | O que reprehende ao escarnecedor, affronta toma para si; e o que redargue ao impio, pega-se-lhe a sua mancha. | He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. |
| 8 | Não reprehendas ao escarnecedor, para que te não aborreça: reprehende ao sabio, e amar-te-ha. | Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. |
| 9 | Dá ao sabio, e elle se fará mais sabio: ensina ao justo, e se augmentará em doutrina. | Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. |
| 10 | O temor do Senhor é o principio da sabedoria, e a sciencia do Sancto a prudencia. | The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. |
| 11 | Porque por mim se multiplicam os teus dias, e annos de vida se te augmentarão. | For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. |
| 12 | Se fores sabio, para ti sabio serás; e, se fores escarnecedor, tu só o supportarás. | If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it. |
| 13 | A mulher louca é alvoroçadora, é simples, e não sabe coisa nenhuma. | A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing. |
| 14 | E assenta-se á porta da sua casa sobre uma cadeira, nas alturas da cidade, | For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, |
| 15 | Para chamar aos que passam pelo caminho, e endireitam as suas veredas, dizendo: | To call passengers who go right on their ways: |
| 16 | Quem é simples, volte-se para aqui. E aos faltos de entendimento diz: | Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, |
| 17 | As aguas roubadas são doces, e o pão tomado ás escondidas é suave. | Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. |
| 18 | Porém não sabes que ali estão os mortos: os seus convidados estão nas profundezas do inferno. | But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell. |
