| 1 | Amados, não creiaes a todo o espirito, mas provae se os espiritos são de Deus; porque já muitos falsos prophetas se teem levantado no mundo. | Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. |
| 2 | N'isto conhecereis o Espirito de Deus: Todo o espirito que confessa que Jesus Christo veiu em carne é de Deus; | Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: |
| 3 | E todo o espirito que não confessa que Jesus Christo veiu em carne não é de Deus; e tal é o espirito do anti-christo, do qual já ouvistes que ha de vir, e já agora está no mundo. | And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. |

| 9 | N'isto se manifestou a caridade de Deus para comnosco: que Deus enviou seu Filho unigenito ao mundo, para que por elle vivamos. | In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. |

| 17 | N'isto é perfeita a caridade para comnosco, para que no dia do juizo tenhamos confiança, porque qual elle é somos nós tambem n'este mundo. | Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. |
| 18 | Na caridade não ha temor, antes a perfeita caridade lança fóra o temor; porque o temor tem a pena, e o que teme não está perfeito em caridade. | There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. |
| 19 | Nós o amamos a elle porque elle nos amou primeiro. | We love him, because he first loved us. |
| 20 | Se alguem diz: Eu amo a Deus, e aborrece a seu irmão, é mentiroso. Pois quem não ama a seu irmão, ao qual viu, como pode amar a Deus, a quem não viu? | If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? |
| 21 | E d'elle temos este mandamento: que quem ama a Deus ame tambem a seu irmão. | And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. |
