| 1 | Então alguns que tinham descido da Judea ensinavam os irmãos, dizendo: Se vos não circumcidardes, conforme o uso de Moysés, não podeis salvar-vos. | And certain men which came down from Judea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. |
| 2 | Feita pois por Paulo e Barnabé não pequena dissensão e contenda contra elles, resolveu-se que Paulo e Barnabé, e alguns d'entre elles, subissem a Jerusalem, aos apostolos e aos anciãos, sobre aquella questão. | When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question. |
| 3 | De sorte que elles, acompanhados pela egreja, passavam pela Phenicia e por Samaria, contando a conversão dos gentios; e davam grande alegria a todos os irmãos. | And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. |
| 4 | E, vindos a Jerusalem, foram recebidos pela egreja e pelos apostolos e anciãos, e lhes annunciavam quão grandes coisas Deus tinha feito com elles. | And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them. |
| 5 | Porém alguns da seita dos phariseos, que tinham crido, se levantaram, dizendo que era mister circumcidal-os e mandar-lhes que guardassem a lei de Moysés. | But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. |
| 6 | Congregaram-se pois os apostolos e os anciãos para examinar este negocio. | And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. |
| 7 | E, havendo grande contenda, levanou-se Pedro e disse-lhes: Varões irmãos, bem sabeis que já ha muito tempo Deus me elegeu d'entre nós, para que os gentios ouvissem da minha bocca a palavra do evangelho, e cressem. | And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. |
| 8 | E Deus, que conhece os corações, deu testemunho d'elles, dando-lhes o Espirito Sancto, assim como tambem a nós; | And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; |
| 9 | E não fez differença alguma entre elles e nós, purificando os seus corações pela fé. | And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. |
| 10 | Agora, pois, porque tentaes a Deus, pondo sobre a cerviz dos discipulos um jugo que nem nossos paes nem nós podémos supportar? | Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? |
| 11 | Antes crêmos que seremos salvos pela graça do Senhor Jesus Christo, como elles tambem. | But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. |
| 12 | Então toda a multidão se calou, e escutava a Barnabé e a Paulo, que contavam quão grandes signaes e prodigios Deus havia feito por meio d'elles entre os gentios. | Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them. |
| 13 | E, havendo-se elles calado, tomou Thiago a palavra, dizendo: Varões irmãos, ouvi-me: | And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: |
| 14 | Simão relatou como Deus primeiramente visitou os gentios, para tomar d'elles um povo para o seu nome. | Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. |
| 15 | E com isto concordam as palavras dos prophetas; como está escripto: | And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, |
| 16 | Depois d'isto voltarei, e reedificarei o tabernaculo de David, que está caido, e reedificarei as suas ruinas, e tornarei a levantal-o. | After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: |
| 17 | Para que o resto dos homens busque ao Senhor, e todos os gentios, sobre os quaes o meu nome é invocado, diz o Senhor, que faz todas estas coisas. | That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. |
| 18 | São notorias a Deus desde toda a eternidade as suas obras. | Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. |
| 19 | Pelo que julgo que não se deve perturbar aquelles, d'entre os gentios, que se convertem a Deus, | Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: |
| 20 | Mas escrever-lhes que se abstenham das contaminações dos idolos, e da fornicação, e das carnes suffocadas e do sangue. | But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. |
| 21 | Porque Moysés, desde os tempos antigos, tem em cada cidade quem o prégue, e cada sabbado é lido nas synagogas. | For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day. |
| 22 | Então pareceu bem aos apostolos e aos anciãos, com toda a egreja, eleger d'elles alguns varões, e envial-os com Paulo e Barnabé a Antiochia, a saber: Judas, chamado Barsabbás, e Silas, varões distinctos entre os irmãos. | Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren: |
| 23 | E por elles escreveram o seguinte: Os apostolos, e os anciãos e os irmãos, aos irmãos d'entre os gentios que estão em Antiochia, e Syria e Cilicia, saude. | And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia: |
| 24 | Porquanto ouvimos que alguns que sairam d'entre nós vos perturbaram com palavras, e transtornaram as vossas almas, dizendo que devieis circumcidar-vos e guardar a lei, aos quaes nada mandámos: | Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment: |
| 25 | Pareceu-nos bem, reunidos concordemente, eleger alguns varões, e envial-os com os nossos amados Barnabé e Paulo, | It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, |
| 26 | Homens que já expozeram as suas vidas pelo nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Christo. | Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 27 | Enviamos pois Judas e Silas, os quaes de bocca vos annunciarão tambem o mesmo. | We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth. |
| 28 | Porque pareceu bem ao Espirito Sancto, e a nós, não vos impôr mais encargo algum, senão estas coisas necessarias: | For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; |
| 29 | Que vos abstenhaes das coisas sacrificadas aos idolos, e do sangue, e da carne suffocada, e da fornicação: das quaes coisas fazeis bem se vos guardardes. Bem vos vá. | That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. |
| 30 | Tendo-se elles pois despedido, partiram para Antiochia, e, ajuntando a multidão, entregaram a carta. | So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle: |
| 31 | E, lendo-a, alegraram-se, pela consolação a que lhes causava. | Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation. |
| 32 | Depois Judas e Silas, que tambem eram prophetas, exhortaram e confirmaram os irmãos com muitas palavras. | And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them. |
| 33 | E, detendo-se ali algum tempo, os irmãos os deixaram voltar em paz para os apostolos; | And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles. |
| 34 | Mas pareceu bem a Silas ficar ali. | Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still. |
| 35 | E Paulo e Barnabé ficaram em Antiochia, ensinando e prégando, com muitos outros, a palavra do Senhor. | Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. |
| 36 | E alguns dias depois disse Paulo a Barnabé: Tornemos a visitar nossos irmãos por cada cidade em que já annunciámos a palavra do Senhor, a vêr como estão. | And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. |
| 37 | E Barnabé aconselhava que tomassem comsigo a João, chamado Marcos. | And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. |
| 38 | Mas a Paulo parecia razoavel que não tomassem comsigo aquelle que desde Pamphylia se tinha apartado d'elles, e não tinha ido com elles áquella obra. | But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. |
| 39 | E tal contenda houve entre elles, que se apartaram um do outro. Barnabé, levando comsigo a Marcos, navegou para Chypre. | And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; |
| 40 | E Paulo, tendo escolhido a Silas, partiu, encommendado pelos irmãos á graça de Deus. | And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God. |
| 41 | E foi passando por Syria e Cilicia, confirmando as egrejas. | And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches. |
