| 1 | Porém, deliberei isto comigo mesmo: não ir mais ter comvosco em tristeza. | But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness. |
| 2 | Porque, se eu vos entristeço, quem é que me alegrará, senão aquelle que por mim foi contristado? | For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me? |
| 3 | E escrevi-vos isto mesmo, para que, quando lá fôr, não tenha tristeza da parte dos que deveriam alegrar-me; confiando em vós todos, que a minha alegria é a de todos vós. | And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all. |
| 4 | Porque em muita tribulação e angustia do coração vos escrevi com muitas lagrimas, não para que vos entristecesseis, mas para que conhecesseis o amor que abundantemente vos tenho. | For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. |
| 5 | Porque, se alguem me contristou, não me contristou a mim senão em parte, para vos não sobrecarregar a vós todos. | But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all. |
| 6 | Basta-lhe ao tal esta reprehensão feita por muitos: | Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. |
| 7 | De maneira que antes pelo contrario deveis perdoar-lhe e consolal-o, para que o tal não seja de modo algum devorado de demasiada tristeza. | So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. |
| 8 | Pelo que rogo-vos que confirmeis para com elle o vosso amor. | Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him. |
| 9 | Porque para isso vos escrevi tambem, para por esta prova saber se sois obedientes em tudo. | For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. |
| 10 | E a quem perdoardes alguma coisa tambem eu; porque, se eu tambem perdoei, se é que tenho perdoado, por amor de vós o fiz na presença de Christo; para que não sejamos vencidos por Satanás; | To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; |
| 11 | Porque não ignoramos os seus ardis. | Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. |

| 13 | Não tive repouso no meu espirito, porque não achei alli meu irmão Tito; mas, despedindo-me d'elles, parti para a Macedonia. | I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia. |
| 14 | E graças a Deus, que sempre nos faz triumphar em Christo, e por nós manifesta em todo o logar o cheiro do seu conhecimento. | Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. |
| 15 | Porque para Deus somos o bom cheiro de Christo, em os que se salvam e em os que se perdem: | For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: |
| 16 | Para estes certamente cheiro de morte para morte; mas para aquelles cheiro de vida para vida. E para estas coisas quem é idoneo? | To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? |
| 17 | Porque nós não somos, como muitos, falsificadores da palavra de Deus, antes fallamos de Christo com sinceridade, como de Deus na presença de Deus. | For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. |
